Tidak Hanya Rokok, Berikut Bahaya Vape untuk Kesuburan & Kehamilan

Not Just Cigarettes, Here Are the Dangers of Vape for Fertility & Pregnancy

A vape is an electronic cigarette device that runs on battery power, allowing the transformation of chemicals into vapor that can be inhaled. Vaping liquids, which generally contain nicotine, have become increasingly popular in Indonesia, despite posing significant health risks. Its use has spread to various levels of society, both men and women, who sometimes adopt vaping as part of their lifestyle. Data shows a sharp increase in the number of vape users in Indonesia, rising from 1.2 million in 2018 to 2.2 million in 2020.

Dangerous Chemicals in Vape

The use of vapes or electronic cigarettes involves heated liquids with a variety of interesting flavors as an attraction. However, this liquid contains substances dangerous to health:

  1. Nicotine: Like cigarettes, vapes contain nicotine which makes users easily addicted. Stopping use can cause anxiety, irritability, and depression. Long-term nicotine consumption permanently damages the lungs and increases the risk of cancer.
  2. Propylene Glycol: Although not a dangerous substance, propylene glycol vapor can irritate the eyes and respiratory tract, especially for asthma sufferers, even though it is often used in food.
  3. Flavors: Vapes offer a sweet and fragrant taste, different from cigarettes. However, more than 75% of the diacetyl flavoring substances contained in vape can cause chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Using e-cigarettes can be dangerous to your health in the long term.

Impact Vape For Fertility and Pregnancy

Unfortunately, vaping use in women can have significant negative impacts. These impacts include:

1. Influence on Fertility

Smoking e-cigarettes can damage egg cells, increase the risk of miscarriage, and disrupt the health of the fallopian tubes. This can reduce the chances of pregnancy and increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

2. Risk to the Fetus in the womb

Vaping use during pregnancy can have a negative impact on fetal growth and metabolism. Studies in mice show that fetal exposure to vaping results in growth problems.

3. Potential Lung Disease

Long-term use of vape can damage the lungs, cause coughing, shortness of breath, and worsen asthma conditions. This can trigger serious diseases such as COPD and lung cancer.

4. Impact on the Heart

Vaping can also increase the risk of heart disease by increasing plaque buildup in the heart's blood vessels, which can lead to heart attack or stroke.

Of course, understanding the risks to fertility when undergoing a pregnancy program is very important. Therefore, it is recommended to stay away from all forms of nicotine, including tobacco cigarettes and vaping, during pregnancy. This also includes avoiding exposure to smoke or vapors. By protecting yourself from these dangerous substances, you can ensure your health and baby's development remains optimal during pregnancy.
