Importance of Checking Egg Cells’ Quality Before Pregnancy

Maintaining reproductive health is one of the important things that need to be considered for couples who want to have children. Before starting a pregnancy program, there are several factors to consider, one of which is checking the quality of the eggs.

The examination aims to identify factors that affect the ability to conceive and increase the chances of having a healthy baby. In addition, the examination is also the first step that needs to be done by couples who want to have children.

That way, health risk factors that can harm the mother and fetus can be detected early. Therefore, it is important for couples who want to have children to check the quality of their eggs before starting a pregnancy program.

The Importance of Checking the Quality of Egg Cells

Examination of egg quality before starting a pregnancy program is very important because it can provide many benefits, including:

  • Increase the Chances of a Successful Pregnancy
Good quality eggs have the ability to be fertilized and develop into healthy embryos. By checking the quality of the eggs before the pregnancy program, the couple can find out whether their eggs are of good quality or not.

If the eggs are of poor quality, the couple can seek appropriate solutions, such as having reproductive therapy assisted by a doctor or changing their lifestyle and diet to make the eggs healthier.

  • Avoiding the Risk of Chromosomal Abnormalities in the Baby
Egg cells that are not of good quality have a higher risk of experiencing chromosomal abnormalities. If an egg that is not of good quality is fertilized and develops into an embryo, the baby born has a higher risk of developing genetic disorders.

By checking the quality of the eggs before the pregnancy program, the couple can avoid the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the baby and ensure that they have a greater chance of having a healthy baby.

  • Maximizing the Effectiveness of the Pregnancy Program
Examination of egg quality before starting on a pregnancy program can help couples to maximize the effectiveness of the pregnancy program. By knowing the quality of their eggs, couples can make informed decisions about when to start the pregnancy program and how best to achieve a successful pregnancy.

Apart from that, checking the quality of eggs can also help couples to find out if there are other reproductive health problems that need to be addressed before starting a pregnancy program.

How to Check the Quality of Egg Cells

Some methods of fertility check on the female reproductive organs include:

  • Hysterosalpingography or HSG
Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a medical procedure that uses X-rays to take pictures of the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes. Prior to the procedure, contrast fluid will be injected into the uterus to ensure the normal condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes.

The goal of this procedure is to detect problems that could prevent fertilization from occurring, such as an abnormal size or shape of the uterus, or blockages in the fallopian tubes.

  • Transvaginal USG
To check the fertility of reproductive organs such as the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix and vagina can be seen through a transvaginal ultrasound device.

In addition, this test is also useful for checking vaginal bleeding, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic pain, the position of the contraceptive device in the uterus, cysts, miscarriage, placental disorders during pregnancy, and confirmation of pregnancy in the early weeks.

  • Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is a method of examining fertility using a tool in the form of a small flexible tube with a camera at the end that is inserted into the uterus. This examination can be used to see the condition of the inside of the uterus and take tissue samples.

Hysteroscopy can also be done to find out the cause of abnormal bleeding in the uterus and detect fibroids, polyps, or uterine abnormalities.

  • Laparoscopy
To detect the cause of infertility, laparoscopy can be used in addition to the three previous procedures. This procedure involves inserting a small camera through a small incision in the abdomen to view the entire pelvis.

With laparoscopy, causes of infertility such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, or diseases of the ovaries and fallopian tubes that cause adhesions can be detected. Laparoscopy can also be used to diagnose pelvic inflammatory disease.

  • Examination of Ovulation Function and Hormone Levels
Checking ovulation and hormone levels is very important. Ovulation is a stage in a woman's menstrual cycle that marks the release of an egg. Fertilization can occur when this egg meets sperm while moving from the fallopian tube to the uterus.

Maintaining the quality of egg cells is an important step for couples who want to have children. By checking the quality of the eggs, the couple can maximize the effectiveness of the pregnancy program and minimize the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the baby to be born.
