Alert! Here are the Causes of HIV and AIDS Transmission

HIV/AIDS is a type of sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can attack anyone. This health disorder causes a decrease in body resistance. Unfortunately, until now, there is no treatment that can cure this condition. Therefore, it is important to always be aware of how HIV spreads. To understand more about the causes of HIV/AIDS transmission, please read the explanation below.

Causes of HIV Transmission that You Need to Be Aware of

The HIV virus, which causes AIDS, cannot be transmitted through sweat, kissing, mosquito bites, or touching. Here are some situations of HIV transmission that need to be considered:

1. Sex Without a Condom

Transmission of the HIV virus can occur through vaginal fluids, semen, or pre-ejaculatory fluid through open wounds on intimate organs. Having sexual intercourse without a condom increases the risk of transmitting the virus, making the body more susceptible to infection. Therefore, it is very important to use condoms when having sex, especially if you change partners frequently. Condoms are effective in preventing transmission of the virus by blocking vaginal fluids or semen from entering the partner's body.

2. Sharing Needles

HIV transmission can occur through sharing needles, especially in HIV-positive individuals. Remaining blood in the syringe can infect a healthy body. Sharing syringes also increases the risk of transmitting other serious diseases, such as hepatitis B and C. Therefore, it is important to use new, sealed and sterile syringes.

3. Blood Transfusion

Although rare, the HIV virus can be transmitted through blood transfusions. This risk can be reduced by rigorous testing and selection of potential donors before transfusion. Countries with the latest health technology have a lower risk of transmission through blood transfusions.

4. Transmission from Mother to Baby

Pregnant women with HIV/AIDS have a high risk of transmitting the virus to the fetus through the placenta or during delivery. Blood tests during pregnancy can help prevent transmission and provide early treatment. Although mothers can give breast milk directly to babies, regular use of antiretroviral drugs can reduce the risk of transmission.

5. Oral Sex

Oral sex can transmit HIV if done when someone has mouth ulcers or sores on the lips and mouth. The risk of transmission increases if there is ejaculation or spread of sperm fluid in the mouth. Apart from HIV, oral sex can also cause transmission of other sexually transmitted diseases.

6. Sex Toys

Sex aids can be a source of HIV transmission if used simultaneously and not managed properly. This risk is higher if the toy is not kept clean or is not covered with a condom. Even though the HIV virus does not survive for long on the surface of inanimate objects, sex toys contaminated with bodily fluids can still be a medium for transmission. Make sure sex toys are always clean and do not have the potential to transmit other sexual diseases.

In fact, the simplest HIV prevention measures involve efforts to avoid factors that can increase the risk of transmission. It is recommended to avoid changing partners during intercourse and to carry out regular health checks if necessary.
