4 of the Most Common Venereal Diseases that Affect Women and How to Treat Them

Many women may have experienced symptoms such as vaginal discharge, itching, redness, or pain in the female area. These symptoms can be an early indication of health problems in the female reproductive organs. If you experience these things, don't hesitate to consult a doctor. This consultation is important to undergo an in-depth examination and receive appropriate treatment in order to feel better.

Genital Diseases that Often Occur in Women

1. Chlamydia

Chlamydia often develops in women more than men. It is caused by a bacterial infection called chlamydia trachomatis, which is generally spread through sexual intercourse. Even more worrying, this infection can be passed from mother to newborn.

The signs of chlamydia are not always immediately apparent, they may appear several weeks after infection. Symptoms include vaginal discharge and unusual bleeding during menstruation.

To maintain vaginal hygiene, choose a cleanser that contains povidone-iodine. These cleansers not only help maintain the balance of bacteria in the vagina, but also protect against potential infections.

2. Gonorrhea (Gonorrhea)

Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted through sexual contact or exposure to infected body fluids. Usually detected in vaginal fluids. Gonorrhea can also be transmitted from mother to child.

The symptoms are often subtle at first, and can be confused with a vaginal or urinary tract infection. Common signs of gonorrhea include pain or burning when urinating, as well as a pus-like discharge from the vagina or penis.

However, if left untreated, this infection can spread to a woman's pelvic organs and cause more serious symptoms, such as vaginal bleeding, pain in the lower abdomen, fever, and discomfort during sexual intercourse.

3. Bartholin's cyst and Bartholinitis

Bartholin's cyst is a swelling of the Bartholin's gland near the opening of the vagina. This gland produces a natural lubricant during sexual intercourse.Blockages in the ducts of these glands can cause fluid buildup and swelling. Bartholin cysts are usually identified by a lump near the vagina. Over time, this can lead to inflammation (bartholinitis) and infection.

If infected, a Bartholin cyst can cause symptoms such as discomfort when walking or sitting, pain during intercourse, pus discharge from the lump, and fever.

4. Syphilis

Just like chlamydia, syphilis can appear without obvious symptoms in women. It can take up to 90 days after infection for symptoms to appear. If detected early, syphilis can be treated more easily and prevent permanent damage. However, if left untreated, syphilis can damage the brain, nervous system and other organs, including the heart.

In order to avoid the various venereal diseases in women mentioned above, it is important for you to always have safe sex by wearing a condom, being faithful to one sexual partner, and undergoing the HPV vaccination. These actions have a vital role because often sexually transmitted diseases in women do not show any striking symptoms, even new symptoms can appear when the condition has worsened.
