7 Bad Habits to Avoid During Hot Weather

Have you felt unusually hot lately? Indonesia is currently experiencing intense hot weather. It is important to avoid bad habits when the weather is hot so that the situation does not get worse.

The Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council (BMKG) revealed that the hot weather occurring in several regions of Indonesia is expected to continue until October. BMKG explained that this hot weather was caused by atmospheric conditions, including sunny weather with few clouds and the position of the sun which was in the north of the equator.

Therefore, it is important for people, especially those who do outdoor activities, to be alert. This hot weather can increase the risk of dehydration, fatigue and various other diseases.

Habits to Avoid During Hot Weather

Hot weather often reduces our enthusiasm and productivity, especially with hot temperatures, making it tempting to enjoy cold food or drinks. However, there are actions that we should avoid in hot weather. Why? Because this can have a bad impact on our health. Here are some habits to avoid when the weather is hot.

1. Drinking Too Much Ice

When hot temperatures hit, drinking cold water may seem attractive, but keep in mind that this habit can have a negative impact on health. Drinking cold water too often can cause throat inflammation or even flu. In addition, excessive consumption of sweet cold drinks such as ice cream, ice syrup, or soda can increase the risk of diabetes.

2. Showering after Exposed to Scorching Heat

Taking a shower to feel fresher in hot weather is not the best choice, especially if you shower immediately after exposure to sunlight. This could risk causing fainting, especially if the water temperature is not appropriate.

3. Washing Face with Cold Water

Washing your face with cold water may feel refreshing in hot weather, but unfortunately, this can be bad for your skin.

4. Forgetting Sunscreen

Not wearing sunscreen in hot weather is an action that is best avoided. Sunscreen is very important to protect the skin from sun exposure, which can cause the skin to darken, dry, and even increase the risk of skin cancer.

5. Not Drinking Enough Water

Not drinking enough water during hot weather can cause dehydration. Make sure to keep your body hydrated by drinking water as needed, and also consuming fruits high in water and vitamins.

6. Not Washing Sheets More Often

Washing sheets more often in hot weather is a good practice to maintain cleanliness and health. While sleeping, we tend to sweat, and sheets can absorb sweat, oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Allowing this to build up can cause unpleasant odors, allergies, or mold growth.

7. Drinking Sweet Drinks

Although cold sweet drinks may seem tempting in hot weather, consuming them can make you feel thirstier. Sugary drinks such as soda and fruit juice can cause dehydration and increase blood sugar levels, which can increase thirst. Carbonated drinks like soda can also cause bloating and discomfort, especially in hot weather.

Of course, avoiding bad habits during hot weather is something that needs to be done. However, not only that, you also need to make sure to balance it with a healthy lifestyle. This way, you can stay comfortable and healthy during prolonged hot weather.
