Preventing pregnancy can be a step taken by married couples in carrying out their Family Planning (KB) program. There are various ways that can be taken, and one of them is through the consumption of certain types of drinks.
Many people believe that drinks that are unhealthy or contain harmful substances can play a role in preventing pregnancy. However, keep in mind that this method may not provide a 100% guarantee in timing pregnancy. Therefore, it is very important for you to continue using contraception after sexual intercourse to prevent pregnancy.
Types of Drinks That Can Prevent Pregnancy
Apart from using contraception, many couples believe that consuming certain foods or drinks can prevent pregnancy. They see this as a natural and safe method of preventing pregnancy. Here are some types of drinks that are believed to prevent pregnancy.
Soda is one drink that should be avoided if you are planning to have children. These drinks are known to affect the quality of semen in men. According to a study it is known that consuming soda is associated with infertility in 3,828 women aged 21 to 45 years and 1,045 of their partners. And research shows that consuming soda can reduce the success of conception by as much as 20% in both men and women.
2. Lemon Juice
Lemon is a fruit that is rich in vitamin C. However, there is a myth that claims that this bright yellow fruit can be a natural ingredient to prevent pregnancy. This is caused by the acidic nature of lemons which can kill sperm, so that fertilization cannot occur in a woman's uterus.
A study also revealed that a mixture of lemon seeds, petroleum ether, and alcohol can be used as a contraceptive. This research was conducted on female rats and resulted in the failure of the embryo implantation process after 1-7 days of insemination. However, the uterus of albino female rats returned to fertility after the lemon extract was stopped.
3. Hibiscus Extract
Apart from lemon, hibiscus is also considered a natural ingredient that can prevent pregnancy. This plant, which has the Latin name Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, contains compounds that have benefits as traditional medicine. In fact, hibiscus flower extract has been shown to have strong anti-implantation properties. So it is only natural that hibiscus has long been used by women or local doctors as a traditional medicine for preventing pregnancy.
Alcohol consumption can have an impact on body health and reduce fertility rates in both men and women. Therefore, if you are planning a pregnancy, it is advisable to avoid alcoholic beverages. This is because women who consume large amounts of alcohol have a higher risk of infertility than women who consume small amounts of alcohol.
Caffeine is also believed to prevent pregnancy. In general, consuming one small cup of coffee per day is still considered safe for women who are planning a pregnancy. Even so, you should still consult with your obstetrician to get more specific advice.
Although some of the types of drinks above are known to have ingredients that are claimed to prevent pregnancy, until now there has been no definite research that proves that drinks or similar foods, such as traditional medicines or ingredients, are truly effective in preventing pregnancy.
