Hi! Let's start with your name
Nina Karina Nikicio from @ninanikicio
How did you get into health & wellness?
I found myself back because of health, through loving and caring for myself. I simply wanted to extend and amplify my personal experience to others, that’s why I am here now in the health & wellness industry.
What are your favorite ways to work out?
I love gentle, easy movements that don't look like much but they are actually very hard to do. It is why I am hooked on pilates, because the movements always look deceiving.
What is your food philosophy like?
Eat as many organic, whole foods as you can every single day, eat less processed food.
What is a typical day of eating like for you?
- Morning: fruit bowl with granola and some yogurt or eggs with loads of raw veggies
- Lunch and Dinner: red rice + chicken / fish + veggies
- Snack: fruits or smoothies or dark chocolate
Do you have any other hobbies & passions?
I love wall climbing and taking care of plants. Both are very rewarding. I also love dancing and being silly with my kids and friends.
Describe your period in 3 emojis.
What feelings do you have towards your period?
It’s the time for me to slow down and embrace my true feelings as a woman.
Do you get any womanly intuition or signs when your period is coming?
I became very sensitive usually and I would want to stay at home even more.
Are there any habits that you incorporate into your lifestyle to honor your period?
Rest. Rest. Rest. And if it wasn’t possible, just slow down.
What’s a period myth that you believed as a kid that you now think is ridiculous?
That period is disgusting and needs to be hidden. I can't show people when I get our period because it’s a sign of weakness.
If you could give your younger self advice when you first got your period, what would you say?
Don’t push yourself so hard and prove to everyone that you are okay and you don’t feel the pain. The pain is there for you to feel, because to feel is the greatest gift there is for us as human beings. And as a woman, we are destined to feel more, because we are made to heal. So do not deny your aching bones, your stomach cramps, and your ringing ears like they don’t matter. During your period, you are allowed to rest, to slow down, to be gentle, and to care for yourself. This is the time for you to listen to your body, to what it needs. Let go of the shame and judgements and please, allow yourself to just be. This pain will pass. Just stay.
